Undergraduate Majors
With more than 40 majors to choose from, our curriculum offers you unparalleled opportunity to pick your path and find the right fit for you, whether you’re interested in Natural Sciences and Mathematics or Social Sciences, or Humanities like History and English are more your style.
Many of our majors also offer opportunities for internships and co-ops both locally and nationally, study abroad and service learning, where you make real-world impact on your community.
If you’re not sure which major is right for you, you’re not alone. Many incoming students aren’t sure with path is the right one—which may be why many of our first-year students choose our Exploratory Studies Program. Through Exploratory Studies, you’ll learn more about what each major has to offer, and whether it’s right for you.

Why study Advising Pre-Medicine?
Pre-med is a non-degree program that combines a course of study with co-curricular experiences to prepare a student for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) and application process for medical school. As a non-degree program, a student either has already completed a degree program or is pursuing a degree program while completing this coursework. These courses may be combined with any major at the university; though, some have similar course requirements which make the journey more streamlined.
Successful students are good at making careful observations, recording information in a logical way and they excel at analyzing that information (critical thinking) which often involves employing basic math skills. Since many natural science courses involve laboratories, students often enjoy active, hands-on learning. The pre-med program requires a significant amount of initiative, hard work and study time, but can result in a very rewarding medical career.

Advising
Special advising for those interested in medicine is available through the University's Pre-Professional Advising Center (PPAC). Medical schools look for well rounded students with strong academic and co-curricular experiences so students are encouraged to meet with their PPAC advisor early in their career. PPAC advisors will assist with the entire process for admission into a medical school, from preparation through application. Additionally, the PPAC advisor will work along with a student's college advisor to ensure the student is getting as much support as possible.
Special Programs
To help develop leadership, teamwork and inter-professional skills, students are recommended to participate in programming through one of the three pre-med student organizations at the University of Cincinnati:
- Caducea - Pre-Medical Society
- MAPS - Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students
- AED - Pre-Medical and Dental Honorary Society
Please check with the PPAC website or the Student Activities and Leadership Development Office (SALD) for contact information on any of these or the other UC student organizations.
Accreditation
The University of Cincinnati and all regional campuses are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.Quick Facts
