Undergraduate Majors

With more than 40 majors to choose from, our curriculum offers you unparalleled opportunity to pick your path and find the right fit for you, whether you’re interested in Natural Sciences and Mathematics or Social Sciences, or Humanities like History and English are more your style.

Many of our majors also offer opportunities for internships and co-ops both locally and nationally, study abroad and service learning, where you make real-world impact on your community.

If you’re not sure which major is right for you, you’re not alone. Many incoming students aren’t sure with path is the right one—which may be why many of our first-year students choose our Exploratory Studies Program. Through Exploratory Studies, you’ll learn more about what each major has to offer, and whether it’s right for you.

Why study Interactive Web Multimedia?

This One-Year Certificate program focuses on creating interactive multimedia applications and environments for contemporary methods of on-line distribution. The certificate program may be pursued as a stand-alone One-Year Certificate program, or may be undertaken as a minor in conjunction with a baccalaureate degree with prior approval. This certificate may be combined with the Associate of Applied Science or Professional Certificate in Applied Media Communications for an enhanced set of professional credentials upon completion of the program.  Students interested in this option must consult with academic and financial aid advisors to determine a plan for dual completion.

The program provides a strong technical foundation in multimedia design principles, interactive flowcharting, storyboarding, narrative structure development, digital imaging, motion graphics, and editing of digital video and audio. There is an emphasis on the aesthetic and functional uses of interactivity, linear and nonlinear storytelling, and technical control over software and development processes. All program students have the opportunity to design and manage a significant interactive web project as they develop a portfolio.

Upon completion of this program the student will receive a certificate from the University of Cincinnati documenting the accomplishment. This credential is not the same as, and should not be confused with, the associate degree offered by our department.

Students who succeed in the interactive web multimedia program are creative thinkers who have an interest in production and digital technologies. They approach assignments and productions in a creative manner to satisfy an instructor’s or client’s vision. They apply their creative energy and academic knowledge to develop solutions. They are team players who are willing to work hard and are able to meet deadlines.

Career Possibilities

Graduates of this major pursue careers in a variety of professional settings. These include advertising, audio recording, graphic design and media, photography, print and publishing, television and video production, and web development.  Job titles include:

Each performance package certificate consists of three courses that build production or critical skills in a particular discipline. Students can typically complete one of these Performance Packages in a single year. Applied Media Communications program students can complete one or more of the Performance Package programs as they complete the required courses for the associate of applied science degree, professional certificate, or one-year certificate program.

Students successfully completing all of the courses in a performance package, earning a grade of C or better in each course, receive a certificate of achievement. Students will receive the certificate upon approval of the application form, and may complete any number of the certificate packages.
