Why study Pre-Sport Administration?

Pre-sport administration is an associate degree program that provides the basic curriculum needed for the first two years of a bachelor's degree in sport administration. The program is transfer-oriented and is ideal for the student who wishes to pursue the first two years within a small campus atmosphere. The program is designed so students can earn an associate of arts degree and transfer to the College of Education, Criminal Justice and Human Services at the University of Cincinnati main campus.

The sport administration curriculum focus is on the business side of the sport industry and was developed to meet the standards of the Sport Management Program Review Council. The sport administration program provides graduates with a strong technical foundation and the business skills necessary to successfully enter the field of sport management.

Career Possibilities

There are approximately five million people working in sport-related occupations. Students who complete the associate degree and the baccalaureate degree in sport administration are prepared for a variety of administrative positions in professional sports, college athletics and high school athletic administration, as well as positions in sports associations. Career opportunities for sport administration graduates exist in the management of sport venues and events, the management of health and fitness and recreation facilities, and positions with sporting goods firms.

Minoring in Pre-Sport Administration

Minors do not apply to associate degree programs. If you are enrolled in a transitional associate degree program, you will spend most of your classroom time acquiring the foundational courses for your four-year baccalaureate. Generally, you will select your minor when you transfer to your four-year institution.

The pre-sport administration major at UC Blue Ash College (UCBA) is designed to facilitate transfer to a baccalaureate program while allowing the student to begin a college program with smaller class sizes and individual attention from well-qualified faculty. The regional campus is conveniently located and has lower fees for tuition, technology, student life and parking.

The program allows for maximum flexibility, with courses offered days and evenings. Tutoring labs in study skills, writing, and math are available at no additional cost for students needing extra help.

Admission Requirements

This program is open to all students with a high school diploma or GED and the desire to succeed in college. Although admission is open, students accepted into the program must meet the academic standards of the program to advance to upper levels of study.

Transferring to UC Requirements

UC Blue Ash College has an open admission policy (although some programs within the college are selective admissions.) Transfer students must supply official transcripts from each previously attended institution. Credits are accepted from any institution currently accredited by any of the six regional accrediting agencies. Credits transferred from another institution may not fulfill specific requirements for the degree. An official evaluation of transfer credit from other colleges will be processed after the student’s file is complete.

Changing Majors within UC Requirements

For current UC students who wish to transfer from one UC program to another:   

• Fill out an Application for Change in College and Program form (sometimes referred to as the "On-Campus Transfer Form"). This form may also be obtained from your current college office.
• Submit the completed form to the college which offers the program that you want to transition into.

Once you have submitted the form, the faculty and staff of your desired major will evaluate your academic record and communicate with you about the transition process.

Graduation Requirements

To qualify for a degree, you must fulfill the requirements of the program from which you expect to graduate and must have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average. It is your responsibility to take the courses necessary for graduation and to meet the UC residency requirements.

You must complete an Online Degree Application, usually the semester before you expect to graduate. You should see your advisor for specific information well in advance of your final semester.
