Why study Health Care Support Technician?

Health care support technicians are health professionals certified or licensed in multiple practice skills and are qualified to perform tasks specific to their certification or licensure. This program prepares students with the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the diverse health and wellness needs of the population. Graduates may be employed as a Phlebotomist, EKG Technician, General or Limited X-ray Machine Operator, State Tested Nurse Aide, Central Service Technician, Patient Care Technician, Medication Aide, Electronic Health Records Specialist, or Health Unit Coordinator, in accordance with their certification or licensure. 

Healthcare Support Technician professionals must be good communicators and like working with people. One must uphold strict ethical principles when entering a health career.  

Career Possibilities

This program would provide students with the opportunity for stackable credentials to allow them to enter the health care workforce in a variety of settings.  Graduates may be employed in hospitals, clinics, physician’s offices, health departments, long term care facilities, and home health care agencies.

Admission Requirements

Programmatic admission requirements for this program include a minimum high school GPA of 2.5 or minimum college GPA of 2.0 with a minimum of 12 credit hours; English guided self placement into ENGL1001 (English Composition), or an ACT English minimum score of 18, or an SAT writing minimum score of 430; math placement test (320), ACT Math sub-score, or SAT Math sub-score resulting in placement into STAT1031 (Introduction to Statistics) or completion of MATH0029 (Math Literacy).

Upon meeting the requirements of the Health Care Support Technician program, students must meet requirements in accordance with the policies of the program and the clinical sites to participate in some technical electives and the Clinical Practicum(s). These may include documentation of specific and current immunizations and vaccinations, American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification, and health insurance.

Transferring to UC Requirements

Transferring to UC Blue Ash College from another institution:   

UC Blue Ash College has an open admission policy (although some programs within the college are selective admissions.) Students admitted to the college must show proof of high school graduation or successful completion of the General Education Development (GED) exam. Submission of standardized test scores (ACT or SAT) is recommended but not required. Transfer students must also supply official transcripts from each previously attended institution. Credits are accepted from any institution currently accredited by any of the six regional accrediting agencies.  Credits transferred from another institution may not fulfill specific requirements for the degree.  An official evaluation of transfer credit from other colleges will be processed after the student’s file is complete.

Changing Majors within UC Requirements

For current UC students who wish to transfer from one UC program to another:   

Fill out an Application for Change in College and Program.

Submit the completed form to the college which offers the program into which you want to transition.

International Student Requirements

Graduation Requirements

To graduate from the UC Blue Ash College Healthcare Support Technician associate degree program, students must complete all required coursework, successfully complete all Technical Electives with a grade of "C" or better, and have a minimum grade point average of 2.0. 

Application Deadlines

UC Blue Ash College admits students each term, so students can begin fall, spring, and summer semesters. Please consult the UC Blue Ash College Admissions page for specific application deadlines for each term.
