With more than 40 majors to choose from, our curriculum offers you unparalleled opportunity to pick your path and find the right fit for you, whether you’re interested in Natural Sciences and Mathematics or Social Sciences, or Humanities like History and English are more your style. 

Many of our majors also offer opportunities for internships and co-ops both locally and nationally, study abroad and service learning, where you make real-world impact on your community.

Why study Computer Engineering?

The B.S. in Computer Engineering degree program at the University of Cincinnati integrates pertinent science and mathematics courses with electrical engineering and computer courses in order to develop an engineer capable of designing and analyzing all aspects of modern computer systems. Students learn to think outside the box to develop creative solutions to problems including the design and analysis of computer hardware and software.

Career Possibilities

Computer Engineers may work in manufacturing, higher education, or research facilities. Possible career paths include:

Minoring in Computer Engineering

Electrical and computer engineering undergraduates have the option of selecting one of several minors offered by the department, such as Biomedical Electronics & Computing, Computer Science, Communications & Signal Processing, Electric Energy & Smartgrid, Embedded Systems, Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, Robotics & Automation, and Very Large Scale Integrated Circuits.

At the University of Cincinnati, we believe that learning is doing and doing is learning. That’s why we invented the first ever Cooperative Education (Co-op) program in 1906. Today, it’s the largest of its kind in the United States. The Co-op model—which places students in full-time employment in their field—supplements the classroom curriculum to make for an educational experience like no other.

Admission Requirements

Admission criteria for this program vary based on a comprehensive review of the relative strength of courses, academic performance, co-curricular activities, and supplemental information provided through the application.
First-year students applying to this program should also have completed the following college preparatory subjects:

  • English (4 units)
  • Mathematics, including algebra, geometry and either pre-calculus or calculus (4 units)
  • Science, including Chemistry and Physics (3 units)
  • Social sciences (3 units)
  • Electives (5 units)

Transferring to UC Requirements

Transfer students in good standing from accredited colleges and universities will be considered for admission to the college at the first, second and third-year levels. The degree requirement of professional practice experience normally precludes acceptance beyond the third-year level. Application Deadlines

First-year students must begin the program during fall semester. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. High school students who wish to be considered for scholarships must apply by December 1 of their senior year in high school.

The University of Cincinnati and all regional campuses are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.


The Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org, under the General Criteria and the Electrical, Computer, Communications, Telecommunication(s) and Similarly Named Engineering Programs Program Criteria.
