Why study Web Development?

This Web Development certificate is designed to provide core skills to become a proficient webmaster. This is a vendor neutral certificate program. The following courses are suggested as a template. Students can design their own learning path with the agreement of the department.

The Department of Information Technology offers four professional certificate programs in information technology (IT). This certificate is designed for individuals wishing to gain additional knowledge and skills in the field of IT. Furthermore, professionals, wishing to renew and/or acquire skills and knowledge that are current in IT, can also use this learning path to enhance their career goals. The certificate is designed to help students apply, as well as integrate, current computing technologies to expand their fields of expertise and enhance career objectives.

As the modern society becomes more and more intertwined with technology, IT quickly turns into any productive individual's must-acquired skill. Regardless of an individual's career objectives, a concentrated study in IT, in a relatively short period of time, shall certainly enhance his/her skills in the work place, as well as widen the prospect of career choices.

UC Advantages and Special Opportunities

The courses required for this certificate are part of the bacheor's degree in information technology offered at the University of Cincinnati. The courses are applied in nature and students will not only learn theoretical concepts but also hands-on computing skills. Feel free to contact the IT department head for details on the current specific technologies being taught in the courses.

Admission Requirements

This program is open to students holding a baccalaureate degree with a cumulative university grade point average of 2.0 and the desire to succeed. Although admission is open, students accepted into the program must meet the academic standards of the program to advance to upper levels of study. Interested students should meet with a UC College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services Student Services staff member for appropriate advising. Please note: In order to obtain this certificate, 100 percent of the required coursework must be taken from the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services.  Application materials for the certificate program can be located at the Application Link.

Graduation Requirements

To obtain the IT certificate, a student prior to graduation, must have successfully completed all program requirements.

A 2.0 average must be achieved in these courses to receive the certificate.

To receive the information technology certificate (suitable for framing), a written request must be submitted to the academic director within one year of program completion. All required courses must be completed within a two-year period from date of acceptance into the program.

Application Deadlines

Application deadlines for all students are as follows:

• Fall Semester: August 1
• Spring Semester: December 1
• Summer Semester: March 1

Gainful Employment Disclosure

Effective July 1, 2011, federal regulations published in the Federal Register on October 29, 2010 [75 FR 66665 and FR 66832] by the U.S. Department of Education require postsecondary institutions that participate in the student financial assistance programs authorized under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (HEA), as amended, to disclose to prospective students certain information about the institution's GE Programs.

Generally, GE Programs include:

• At public and private not-for-profit institutions: Title IV-eligible non-degree programs (e.g., certificate and diploma programs).
• At for-profit institutions: All Title-IV eligible instructional programs, degree and non-degree.
